Royalty-Free, Extended Royalty-free, Rights-Managed, Editorial Photos.

TYPES OF LICENSES. Rules for the use of materials.

Images, videos are sold with licenses. License - is the terms of use of materials. Different licenses have different conditions of use.

The buyer must correctly determine for what purposes and in what territory he needs images and video. In accordance with this, the buyer must choose the type of license. You can not make a mistake with choosing a license.

Infringement of copyrights, conditions of use of licenses, entails prosecution under the law.

Royalty-free. The most common type of license. Exceptional rights to images belong to the author. The buyer uses the images in the volume, resolution and terms, which are spelled out in the contract. Payment for the image is made once, use is multiple.

Extended royalty-free. An extended license is suitable if the image is for commercial purposes, without limits on volumes and circulation.

Rights-Managed (RM) Managed rights license. Images are limited not only in place, but also in time of use.

Advantage for customers: they acquire either the exclusive right to an image, or limit its use by others in a separate region.

Editorial for those who plan to use images in news media and online media. You can not buy images for placement in promotional materials, because people in the pictures did not sign a model release, and therefore did not consent to the use of their identity in advertising. In addition to people in the images, you can find company logos, trademarks and other elements that are never on images with other licenses.

The two most common types of license are Royalty-free and Extended (Enhanced).
